Citizens of any point of Mijas Pueblo and the clients of the hostelries will be able to circulate without limitation along the most ancient streets of the town centre. The move is part of the municipal plan to semi-pedestrianize the historic centre in order to encourage pedestrian traffic and the flow of tourists.

The government team of the Ayuntamiento of Mijas has restricted traffic in the historic centre of Mijas Pueblo, which now is limited to residents of the village itself and travellers who stay overnight in one of the two lodges located in the enclave.

Thus, the government team takes another step in its draft for the semi-pedestrianization of the historic centre of Mijas Pueblo, as a way to encourage pedestrian traffic on streets with a high influx of tourists.

To enable the restriction of traffic, the Operational Services of the City Council have installed prohibited signs on both Málaga street and in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña. The signals are accompanied by posters in Spanish and English, which indicates that the limitation does not affect residents in both the historical centre as in any other point of Mijas Pueblo.

The Traffic Service of the Ayuntamiento of mijas have indicated that much of the daily circulation in the centre of Mijas Pueblo is generated by tourist and visitor vehicles who are looking to find a parking space in the old town, which, in the opinion of the government team, should be used by local residents. For this reason, it has also reinforced signs indicating public parking located in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña.

"Citizens may pass without any problems. For tourists and visitors, they will be told where the public parking is through signs, "said the spokesman of the government team, Mario Bravo, who insisted that" the efforts of the Ayuntamiento are intended to facilitate the movement of people through the historic centre. "

A problem that might arise by restricting access to the historic centre is for those not resident in Mijas Pueblo who want to access the district of Santana, the west entrance to the population centre. Here, Mario Bravo recommended that these motorists using the bypass.
